چکیده

Oral Submucous fibrosis is a chronic progressive debilitating disease and often considered to be a potentially malignant disorder. Development of epithelial dysplasia in oral sub mucous fibrosis is debatable and the role of epithelium and connective tissue bed in its initiation, progression and promotion had been studied by various authors. Changes in epithelium of oral sub mucous fibrosis are thought to be dependent on vascularity and nourishment of underlying stroma but recent analytical studies related to Inducible Nitric Oxide Synthase (iNOS) activity and microvasculature raised questions against them. This brief note simplifies the pathogenesis and mechanism of carcinogenesis in oral sub mucous fibrosis where one of the etiological components (areca nut) has played its perfect role. Oral Submucous Fibrosis: A Chronic Deliberating Disease of Oral Cavity

Oral submucous fibrosis is chronic progressive condition of oral cavity. The condition is well recognized for its malignant potential. Usually the disease initiates with redness, blistering, and ulceration inside the mouth. It is characterized by progressive fibrosis of submucosal tissue. The pathogenesis of oral submucous fibrosis is not well understood. Betelquid chewing is the major etiologi...

Oral Submucous Fibrosis: a case report

We describe an interesting case of oral sub mucous fibrosis accompanied by severe trismus in a 23 years old man. The patient had initially been diagnosed as having internal derangement of the temporomandibular joint and conservative treatment had failed to decrease the symptoms. Despite extremely limited temporomandibular joint movement, cone beam computed tomography revealed no important abnor...

Histochemical and Immunohistochemical Analysis of Collagen Fibers and Microvascular Density in Various Grades of Oral Submucous Fibrosis

Background and Objective: This study was aimed to evaluate the collagen fibers qualitatively and its correlation with microvascular density in various grades of oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF).   Material and Methods: The present study comprised of total 40 cases of oral submucous fibrosis. Picrosirius red staining was done on all the specimens’ sections. ...

A Review of Oral Submucousal Fibrosis, Related Factors, Prognosis and New Therapeutic Approaches

Abstract   BACKGROUNackground and AIMD & AIM: Oral Submucous Fibrosis (OSF) is an oral premalignant condition with highest premalignant potential  among oral precancerous lesions which characterized with inflammation and  progressive fibrosis of  submucosal oral tissues (cause to significant irreversible rigidity and trismus). During the years, many classification systems have been propo...

The phosphorylation of survivin Thr34 by p34cdc2 in carcinogenesis of oral submucous fibrosis.

Survivin is a crucial node molecule involved in apoptosis, cell division and drug discovery. Up-regulation of survivin in the tissues of oral submucous fibrosis (OSF) and oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) originated from OSF has already been demonstrated. Survivin Thr34 phosphorylation is involved in the inhibition of apoptosis and cell division. To determine the potential involvement of surv...
